The Angled Bob is a twist on the classic bob and has recently taken over Hollywood.  This style is cut to chin length around the back with longer, layered pieces up front.  This look is good for people with full faces, as it thins out your features.  This cut also works best on people with straight hair.  To style, simply add a little styling product and blow dry straight.  You can use a straight iron if neccesary, or add a few barrettes for a special look!

Stay tuned for more cute hairstyles for both long and short hair!

Can you speed up hair growth?

The rate at which hair grows is largely due to health and genetics.

Most people's hair grows 6 inches a year, or 1/2 inch each month.  Hair grows by pushing out from the follicle, where the actual living part of your hair is located. When hair is actively growing, it is called the anagen phase, and the majority of your hair will be in this phase at any given time. During the catagen phase, the follicle starts to detach and the whole hair dies, moving into the telogen phase, where it waits to be shed. All of the the head is in different stages of hair growth, and you can expect to shed approximately 100 hairs every day as your head makes room for new hair.

While you cannot make your hair grow much faster, you can take steps to make it stronger and healthier.  Like nails, hair is made from keratin, a type of protein: increasing the protein in your diet will help make your hair stronger.

Be sure to take good care of your hair as it grows.  Avoid split ends as they will cause the hair to look frizzy and not smooth.  Wash your hair at least every other day and be sure not to brush wet hair.  Our stylists at Cookie Cutters can give you more tips and tricks on growing longer hair.  Hope to see you soon!

Curly hair is often harder to care for than straight hair.  Here are a few tips and tricks for parents who have kids with curly hair:

Brushing:  Do not use a narrow toothed comb on curly hair.  Instead use a wide toothed comb and brush slowly from the tips up to the roots.

Moisture:  Curly hair is often more dry than straight hair.  Be sure you are using a shampoo and conditioner that is made for dry hair.  You should also use a deep conditioner on the hair once a month.

Drying:  Do not try to blow dry curly hair as you would straight hair.  This will just result in making the hair frizzy.  Instead, use a blow dryer specially made for drying curly hair.  Use the dryer on the lowest setting and scrunch the hair with your hands while drying.

Styling:  Curly hair looks better when it is cut in layers.  If the hair is all the same length, the hair can be too heavy and pull the curls down.  Ask for a layered cut with short layers around your face.

Be sure to come in to Cookie Cutters, where our stylists can give you this hairstyle and more!  Hope to see you soon!

Looking for a new cute kid's haircut?  Try the Caesar!

The Caesar cut is a men's hairstyle with a short, horizontally straight cut fringe. The hair is layered to around 1-2 inches all over. It is named after Julius Caesar, whose images frequently depict him wearing his hair in such a manner, and was made popular in the 90's by George Clooney on ER.  This cut is still very fashionable today!

The Bob is a very cute hairstyle for many girls as they are easy to maintain and can be styled different ways for different occasions.  The bob can also look good on many different hair types.  You can always add headbands and barrettes for differing looks, or simply curl the ends to vary the appearance.  This is also a hairstyle that looks good on children of all ages.

Cookie Cutters is your local source for cute kids haircuts!

Pixie Cut

This type of hair style is very easy to maintain, requiring only a bit of gel and minimal blow drying to style.  Your daughter might like this style if she is a bit of a tomboy, or simply doesn't want to deal with long hair.  It is very cute and stylish, worn here by Natalie Portman.

Remember, your local Cookie Cutters has stylist who are specially trained to give your child the perfect hairstyle.  Hope to see you soon!

Hey kids!  Want a new hairstyle for school this year?  Try a faux-hawk!

The fauxhawk (or faux-hawk) hairstyle is an approximation of a Mohawk, made without shaving or buzzing the hair on the sides of the head, allowing an imitation of the look of a true mohawk without having to commit to removing most of one's hair.  In many cases, the look can be temporarily set aside by simply combing or restyling the hair. The name is a portmanteau of faux (the French word for false) and mohawk. The fauxhawk was popularised by football (soccer) star David Beckham. The fauxhawk is typically worn with a small but noticeable spike in the middle, though usually considerably shorter than many traditional mohawks. Because a fauxhawk does not involve shaving the head, most, if not all, of the hair will be gelled upward.

1. Grab a styling gel and put it on the sides of your hair evenly using your palms. Be sure to choose a strong styling gel or a product to keep your faux-hawk nicely placed throughout the day.

2. Use your hands to start shaping the faux-hawk. You need to make it stand up straight, do this by pulling from the roots upwards. If you find your hair is not strong enough to stand up, help it with the use of a hair iron or a blow dryer. Be careful in this step to avoid damaging your hair.

3. Time to finish it up! Use a strong hold hairspray to give it the final touch. Choose a hairspray suitable for your hair type.

Wondering when you should make an appointment for your baby's first haircut?  We suggest waiting until your baby is around one year old, unless his or her hair grows very fast and is quite long.  Here is information from Johnson's Baby:

Your baby's hair is changing. It's growing longer and thicker. His newborn hair (if he had any!) might even have been replaced by hair of a completely different color. As his hair gets longer and thicker and he begins to experiment with finger foods, you'll notice that a lot of his dinner ends up in his hair. Which makes now a perfect time for your baby's first haircut.

Try the Professionals!

Whether you choose to go to a salon or do it yourself, your baby's first haircut is a momentous occasion. If you wish to go to a hairdresser or barber, try one who specializes in cutting hair for children. He or she will know how to work quickly so your baby is in and out of the chair in as little time as possible! Although you may think your baby doesn't have enough hair to warrant a "professional" cut, there is a distinct advantage to starting early: if your baby gets used to the experience now, you may be able to avoid the potential frenzy that often accompanies toddlers' trips to the hair salon or barber.

It will help if you hold your baby in your lap. Salons often have fun, themed chairs for children as well as age-appropriate video tapes to distract your baby from the scissors snipping around his ears!

Hey moms and dads!

Are your kids going away to camp soon?  Are they sharing brushes with friends?  Do you want to prevent them from contracting head lice?

Cookie Cutters carries a line of all natural shampoos, conditioners, and detanglers designed to do just that!  Rosemary Repel is a unique blend of pure rosemary oils, lavender and tea tree extracts that act as a natural deterrent to lice and other insects.

Isn't it better to try and prevent head lice than to treat it once your child has it?

Hi Moms and Dads!  Are you looking for tips on how to manage your child's hair?

First, even if your baby has very little hair, be sure to brush it with a soft brush.  The hair won't be tangled, but brushing it daily can help get your child accustomed to being groomed.

Second, if you have a child with long hair, invest in a bottle of detangling spray.  This will be your best friend if you have a child who does not like getting her hair brushed.

You may also want to use conditioner on your child's hair after you shampoo.  Using a small amount, work the conditioner into the hair from the bottom up.
