Cute summer hair!

Thursday, July 2, 2009 by Stylist Blogger
Half Up, Half Down Ponytail!

This is the cutest and easiest hairstyle for summer. This is great look for long or short hairstyles. You can achieve this look by pulling the top portion of the hair into a ponytail while the bottom is left loose. Or for a different spin instead of a ponytail, secure the hair with bobbie pins. This is a great look for little girls, girls with one length hairstyles, or girls that are trying to grow out bangs. When you come into Cookie Cutters Haircuts For Kids your stylist can show you how to do this hairstyle.

Try Long Layers For Girls!

Thursday, July 2, 2009 by Stylist Blogger
Want a new look for your daughters long hairstyles?
Try adding long layers!

Long layers are great for long hairstyles and even some short haircuts. Long layers add body to fine hair, thin out thick hair, and help eliminate tangles, especially during the summer, when it is harder to comb through one length hair. If your daughters hair is wavy or somewhat curly the curls can be weighed down by one length hair. Putting a long layer in the back will take some of the weight off and make the curl bounce back. This will also eliminate any fuzziness in the back of the hair. So ask your stylist at Cookie Cutters Haircuts For Kids if this style is recommended for your daughter. Discover how much fun a haircut can be!

Take care of your hair during swim season

Monday, June 29, 2009 by Stylist Blogger

If your child is swimming a lot this season they are probably going to have a lot of chlorine in their hair. If too much chlorine gets in your child's hair it will be extremely unmanageable, tangely, and always look stringy.

Here are a few helpful hints for prventing chlorine build up. Before your child jumps in the pool spray dry hair with Circle of Friends pre-swim conditioner. This will coat the hair and keep the chlorine from being absorbed into the hair. When your child gets out of the pool shampoo their hair with Circle of Friends swimmers shampoo. This will keep chlorine from staying in the hair.

If your child has too much chlorine in their hair it may have a green tint to it, feel slimy when wet, or straw like when dry, And be very hard to get a comb through it, especially long hairstyles. In this case call your local Cookie Cutters children's salon and make an appointment for a malibu treatment today!

Hair Care Products and Tips for Children

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 by Stylist Blogger
It is important to find the right hair care products for child because it will make taking care of their hair a whole lot easier.

First, start off with the right shampoo. At Cookie Cutters,  Haircuts for Kids we believe in the Circle Of Friends shampoo and for the older girl's the Fairy Tales shampoo line. The Circle of Friends line is tear free and has no sodium Laural sulfates. It comes in a variety of scents, including, orange, raspberry, and banana. We also carry Swimmers shampoo, it is a clarifying shampoo that is used after you get out of the pool.  The Fairy Tales line is an all natural, organic product line and has several product to choose from such as a conditioning shampoo and a detangling shampoo.

Next, you can match the conditioner that goes with your shampoo. All of our conditioners leave your child's hair smooth and shiny. Conditioning your child's hair is very important.  No matter how young your child is their hair can get dry and damaged. Conditioner will keep tangles and fly aways to a minimum. It will keep long hairstyles manageable and curly hair frizz free.

In some cases your child may need a detangler. Our Circle of Friends detangler comes in pineapple, banana, and raspberry scents and the Fairy Tales is a static free conditioning detangling. They are designed for all hair types. If your child has long or curly hair it is a good idea to use a rinse out conditioner when you are shampooing then a detangler when trying to comb out dry hair.
If your daughter has a curly hairstyle you want to use our Circle of Friends Mango Mousse. It is a light mousse with a hint of conditioner in it. It is great for defining curls and controlling frizz all day.

For special hairstyles when you need a little extra hold try Circle of Friends Vanilla Freeze hairspray. It has a light hold, is great for controlling fly aways, static, and keeping braids and buns nice and neat.

A parents guide to a stress free hair cut

Thursday, June 11, 2009 by Stylist Blogger

No matter what the reason, whether your child does not like to get their haircut or you are thinking about getting your baby's first haircut your first step should be to come to Cookie Cutters Haircuts For Kids where haircuts are fun!

All of our stylist are well trained to deal with nervous or scared children. Many children do good for their first haircut but the closer they get to age two the more likely it is they will not always be willing to sit down. Either the child is afraid of getting their haircut or they just do not like sitting for any length of time.

Just remember your child will not be the first to cry. Do not be embarrassed. There are some days at Cookie Cutters where it seems like no child wants their haircut and we do not mind working with the child through the experience.  Also remember as adults we all know that it does not hurt to get your haircut, but a small child does not know this.

At Cookie Cutters we are prepared for children that have the wiggles or can't stop crying. We have televisions at all stations and will try to find their favorite program. We also have bubbles to play with while they get their hair cut. These things usually work at distracting and calming the child, but even if these distractions don't work we will get the haircuts done with your help.

Don't forget to come prepared. It is a good idea to bring toys or snacks for your child. Crackers, cereal, suckers, fruit snacks seem to work great. This will keep your child occupied and keep their mind off of what the stylist is doing.

It is a great idea to bring an extra shirt for your child. Most children do not like to keep the cape on while they get their haircut. If they do keep the cape on they can still feel itchy after the haircut and this can make their experience even less enjoyable.

After the haircut your child can get their balloon and go on the slide where all of their worries will disappear!

Don't worry this stage will soon pass. One day they will surprise you and love to get their haircut. Then don't be surprised if they cry when it is time to leave the salon!

Summer Is A Great Time To Grow Into a New Style!!

Friday, June 5, 2009 by Stylist Blogger
Have you been wanting your child to grow out a certain hairstyle or part of their hair?  If so summer is a great time to begin!

If your daughter has bangs, but has been looking at girl hair styles that have longer or no bangs this is a great opportunity to begin working your way to the new hairstyle.  It does take a lot of patience to grow bangs out. It seems to be  easier in the summer so you don't have to worry about her not being able to see the chalk board.

A great thing to use when growing out a style is headbands.  Headbands seem to work a lot better than hair barrettes. Hair barrettes fall out easier and your child usually can't put them in by themselves.  Another tip when growing out a hair style is to keep your child's hair parted on either side never down the middle. This also makes it much easier to keep the bangs out of their eyes.

If you need help deciding what hairstyle will work best for your daughter stop by your local Cookie Cutters, Haircuts For Kids salon and ask one of our stylist for suggestions.  Also, if you have pictures of kids hairstyles you like bring them with you to help show your stylist the hairstyle you are working toward.

Tips For Keeping Hair Healty This Summer

Thursday, June 4, 2009 by Stylist Blogger
Now that summer is here, your children will probably be spending a lot of time in the pool. It doesn't matter whether children have long hairstyles or short hairstyles, a girl haircut or boy hair ut, chlorine will damage the hair just the same.  Cookie Cutters Haircuts for Kids would like to give you a few reminders on how to keep your child's hair healthy and chlorine free. Remember, it is easier to prevent chlorine build up than is to get ride of it, so follow these recommendations before diving into the water.
  • Before your child hits the water be sure to spray down their hair with Circle of Friends Pre-Swim conditioner. This will coat the hair and block the chlorine from being absorbed.
  • Always shampoo hair after swimming with our Circle of Friends Swimmers shampoo. This will remove any chlorine in the hair.
  • Follow up with our Circle of Friends orange or raspberry conditioner to keep hair moisturized and prevent drying.
If your child's hair feels slimy when wet or has a green tint to it call your local Cookie Cutters Haircuts For Kids salon and make an appointment for a Malibu Treatment. This is a treatment that is put on the hair for 20-40 minutes and will strip away any chlorine build up.  It is suggested you do this at the end of summer before you get your new Back to School hairstyle.

For more healthy hair tips be sure to ask your stylist for suggestions on your next visit!

Buzz Cut For A Cool Summer Style

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 by Stylist Blogger
To buzz or not to buzz

If your son plays a lot of sports, sweats a lot, has thick hair, or just does not like to comb his hair then a buzz cut hairstyle is the answer.

There are still many style choices even with short hairstyles.

It can be buzzed the same length on the sides and back as it is on top.  It can be faded shorter on the sides and back and left longer on top.  You can choose to buzz all off the bang area or leave some bangs to spike up or comb straight down.  The bangs can be cut short with scissors so that they blend in, this keeps you from getting the buzzed off look and is still maintenance free.

Once you decide on short haircuts for the summer, you will wish you had done it a long time ago.

If you are still having trouble deciding what boys hair cut would be best for your son, stop by your local Cookie Cutters, Haircuts for Kids and ask your stylist for help.

Summer Boys Haircut Equals Answer to Pesky Cowlick

Monday, June 1, 2009 by Stylist Blogger

There are many options this summer for short hairstyles for boys. A great way to keep cool in the summer is a clipper cut. It is also a great answer if you are tired of pasting down that pesky "Dennis the Menace" cowlick.

Don't be afraid this is not a burr haircut. The clippers are used on the sides, back, and even the crown just short enough so the hair can not stick up.  What makes this boys hair cut different from a burr is that clippers are not used on top. Scissors are used to blend the top in.

This short hairstyle can be worn combed straight down for a maintenance free summer haircut, worn spiky all over or with spiky bangs.

Your Cookie Cutters, Haircuts for Kids stylist can help you determine if this is the right haircut for your son and even show you pictures of kids hairstyles that will help you have an idea of what the hairstyle will look like.

Check back tomorrow for more on cool summer haircuts for children.

Summer Haircuts For Boys

Friday, May 29, 2009 by Stylist Blogger

Summer is a great time to get away from the typical "little" boy haircut and try a shorter version. Most moms say "I don't want it to look like a burr".  A burr haircut is a thing of the past.  There are many different versions of boys clipper cuts and at Cookie Cutters, Haircuts for Kids your hairstylist can help you choose the style that would work best with your boys hair. We also have pictures of kids hairstyles to choose from.

If your child has never had a clipper haircut before it is a good idea to start with a longer guard and only use the clippers on the sides and back, then blend the top in using scissors. This is just a shorter version of a little boy haircut and is tapered in a little closer around the ears and on the back of the neck. This will make fine hair look thicker and thin out thick hair. It will also give you a little more time in between haircuts.

A #4 guard is typically the most common used. It will leave the hair 1/2 of an inch long. However there are many guards #1 through #8. With #1 being the shortest and #8 being the longest. It's better to start longer because you can always go back and take more off.

The top of the hair can be left as long as you want it or cut as short as you like and still be blended in.

Check back for more versions of boys clipper cuts in future blogs!

Cute Summer Styles With Braids

Thursday, May 28, 2009 by Stylist Blogger

Boho Braids

Braids are a quick, fun summer hairstyle for kids. This is a great way to open up a girls small face, tame thick hair, or give fine hair texture. It can be a great for short hairstyles or long hairstyles. This will also keep unruly hair in place

There is not a "right" way to braid girls hair. You can modify the braids to suit your hair type and style. Feel free to do as many braids as you want and play around with where you place them.

Hair can be braided wet or dry. Use small sections at your part or at the hairline. Braid to the end and secure with a clear elastic band. Tuck end of braid under other pieces of hair so the end is not visible.
